Keeping spectators and athletes informed about what’s happening in our new Results interface is essential for delivering a world-class Live Results experience. To ensure transparency and reduce confusion, the system now clearly communicates three different connection scenarios.
Spectator Loses Internet Connection
If a spectator viewing Results loses their internet connection, they may not immediately realize why updates have stopped appearing.
When this happens, the interface displays a message indicating that the device has lost internet connectivity. Once the connection is restored, the notification automatically disappears and updates resume.
Lost Connection to the Live Results Pipeline
When an event is marked “Live,” results update automatically in real time—no page refresh required. While many results platforms do not provide this capability, our interface continuously streams updates through a dedicated results pipeline.
If a user temporarily loses connection to this pipeline, the interface displays a message explaining that live updates are paused. Once the connection to the pipeline is restored, the notification disappears and updates resume automatically.
Major Error or Service Outage
Our Results interface uses a robust caching system designed to deliver results to a large number of spectators simultaneously.
In the rare event that the system cannot reach our servers, the interface avoids showing a confusing application error. Instead, users see a clear message indicating that we are experiencing connectivity issues and are automatically attempting to reconnect.
As an additional fallback, users are also provided with a direct link to Athlinks, where results may still be available.
