Introduction
On occasion, ChronoTrack will release updates to the ChronOS software to patch bugs and add enhancements. These updates will sometimes include Power Board firmware updates. When these updates are released, they will be available on the Timer Portal in the downloads section.
To check if your Pro2 controller needs to be updated, go to Settings > About Controller and find the ChronOS Version in the middle of the screen. If this version number is lower than the latest version available on the Timer Portal, you should update your controller as soon as possible.
You'll need:
- A USB flash drive (16GB or less)
- A computer
- Controller plugged into AC Power
- At least 1 charged Ryobi battery in one of the controller battery slots
- ~10 minutes
Download the File to USB
- Within the Timer Portal, you will find the firmware update files in the Home tab, in the downloads section. Download the latest ChronOS version from there.
- Right-click on the zipped file and choose Extract All
- Select the storage path for the unzipped folder, then click Extract
- Inside the unzipped folder, copy the update folder located inside the "ChronOS-X.X.X.X" folder to your USB drive. If you see a folder titled "_MACOSX", please ignore it.
If your current ChronOS version is at or below 1.0.0.35, you will need to install the new version via a boot installation. Click HERE to see instructions on how to do this.
Installation
Menu Structure Method (1.0.0.48 or higher)
- With the Pro2 powered ON, insert the USB drive, then choose Settings > System > Admin > Updates > System
- If the update file and folder structure is correct, you should see a button that says Update. Press this button to start the update.
- You should see the screen below indicating that the update is in progress. The Marquee display will also read "Updating".
- When the update is complete, you will see the message below. The Marquee will also say Updated for several seconds after the update is complete.
- If the ChronOS update file contained a Power Board update, you will see a message that says you should update the Power Board. The message will give you the option to update the Power Board Now (recommended) or Later. If there is no Power Board prompt, you can remove the USB drive and use your controller.
- To update the PowerBoard, press Now on the update message, or if you pressed Later, go back to Settings > System > Admin > Updates again, and choose Update Power Board.
- Choose the update file in the list to the left, then choose Update. You may need to tap Scan USB for the file to appear on the left. After you tap Update, the Powerboard update process will begin, and it should take only a few minutes.
- Once the update is complete, the controller will reboot.
If the controller hangs on the shut down screen or a black screen, wait 5 minutes. If the controller remains stuck on that screen, hold down the power button til the controller shuts off, then power the controller back on. The controller should work normally. - You can now remove the USB drive.
- Once complete, you will need to perform a time sync and reboot the controller one more time.
- Your Pro2 is up to date!
In order to downgrade version 1.3.1.0 or higher, you must use the menu structure (not with the USB flash drive method) which is Settings > System > Admin > Updates > Downgrade
Boot Method (1.0.0.35 or lower)
- With the controller powered OFF, press the button to turn the controller on, but do not plug in the USB drive immediately. You will see a screen that says "Congatec" at the top left corner. As soon as this screen appears, plug in the USB drive and wait.
- After a few moments, you should see the screen below.
- If you see an error, or the update process doesn't start. Power off the controller and try again. It's best to plug in the USB drive as soon as possible after the first screen goes blank.
- When the update is complete, you will see the message below. The Marquee will also say Updated for several seconds after the update is complete.
