Introduction
The ability to allow athletes to buy gift certificates for one or more of your Events can be an excellent way to drive registration and generate extra revenue. In order to offer gift certificates, you'll set up a separate event that will be used to purchase the gift certificates. This allows for a completely separate registration link from the event or events for which you're setting up the certificates. You can even have a general event that allows codes to be used for a series of events or any event for the year, as long as those events have been added and their registration opened. This guide will walk you through the steps necessary to put this into practice.
Step 1
Create a New Event with a title that indicates clearly which other events for which the gift certificates will be valid. Selling gift certificates should be the ONLY function of this event.
Step 2
Create a Race titled "Gift Certificate Purchase"
Step 3
Create Reg Choices for each CT Live event for which you would like to offer Gift Certificates (if offering multiple) and then set up pricing that matches the events or at the discount level you would like. If the actual event's pricing has tiers that change based on number of entrants and you are selling gift certificates that cover the cost of the entire event, you should set the pricing to the maximum price or manually change the price for the Gift Certificate event once each tier has been met.
Step 4
Add a Waiver and copy in the following text. Modify the bold, italicized parts to fit your needs.
"I acknowledge that I am purchasing a non-refundable gift certificate to be used for the YYYY race.
Your gift certificate can be applied to registration fees associated with the matching registration choice within the YYYYYY race registration.
- Upon completion of your gift certificate purchase today, you will receive a confirmation email which will include a discount code. The code will show up under the title “Your Guest Pass Coupon” and begin with XXXX –followed by a unique set of letters/numbers. It will be your responsibility to provide this discount code (including XXXXX –) to the individual you are purchasing the gift certificate for. That individual will input their code when prompted while completing their registration for the YYYYY event.
Please note that the gift certificate you are purchasing will cover standard registration fees up to the purchase value you have selected.
The gift certificate will not cover any merchandise nor will it cover any credit card processing and/or transaction fees that may apply."
Step 5 (Optional)
Create a Custom Question asking who the gift certificate is being given to.
Having this information in the confirmation e-mail can be useful if people buy multiple gift certificates. To enable this, go to Registration > Email and locate the Custom Question Email Display, you cshould choose to show the answer to the question in the Confirmation Email.
Step 6
Create a Guest Pass type coupon with a Max Use value of 1, then choose the Event(s) for which the Gift Certificate will be effective and set the dollar amount or percentage for the discount.
Step 7
Release the Registration Form and publish the registration link.
Once athletes complete a registration, their confirmation e-mail will arrive with the Guest Pass code listed near the bottom of the e-mail. As noted in the Waiver text, it will be up to the purchasers to distribute the codes to the people they bought them for.
